Candidate for WV Agriculture Commissioner
Morgantown/Kingwood Branch of the NAACP 2020 Questionnaire
A. How do you plan to improve access to health care and public health information for minority communities in West Virginia?
Our rural communities deserve access to safe water, sanitation, and access to broadband. These all impact the health of everyone in our rural communities. The Department of Agriculture can play a key role in getting this done.
B. In what ways should police departments and bystanding police officers be held accountable for their officers’ violent acts and misconduct?
Acts of violence will be prosecuted and misconduct reprimanded.
Continuing education on the importance of reducing systemic racism and ways to better our professional officers is necessary.
C. In what ways have you fought discrimination that targeted people of color either in the workplace or in the community?
It has been my personal goal to be available to help or assist everyone in our communities who have been targets of discrimination. I have supported diversity in organized oversight groups or boards. And, will continue to encourage open and honest discussions to address any concerns with discrimination is vital.
D. What actions will you take against voter suppression?
I would take an approach to creating access for our voters. In rural communities, our post offices must remain open. Also, having broadband connection for access to information is a must.
